PAYING FOR TUITION AND BOOKS

Tuition

Your available Financial Aid award will first be applied to cover any current tuition charges. Since your Financial Aid award is based on your hours of enrollment, Financial Aid is not credited to your outstanding balance until the College has completed attendance verification. The Financial Aid office also has to send the approved amounts to the Business Office to post to your account and issue refund checks. You will see an outstanding balance until that process is complete. The Financial Aid posting process is typically finalized around the 6th week of the semester.

If you do not have enough Financial Aid in place to cover your current tuition charges, the Financial Aid office will contact you and you may need to take additional steps to ensure your balance is covered.

Books

Students are able to charge books starting 10 days before the first day of class. At that time, if the student is awarded funds for books, the student must bring a copy of his/her schedule and a photo ID to the book store to purchase books. Books should be purchased within the first 2 weeks of the semester, including books for late start classes.  If registering for late start classes after the first 2 weeks of the semester, see financial aid before going to the bookstore. After refund checks are mailed, books and expenses will need to be paid for out of pocket.

Financial Aid will also pay for REQUIRED supplies. For example, purchasing a camera when you are an English student would not be a required item; but if you are a photography student, a camera would be considered a required item.  Items like ear buds may be a required item but you will be expected to get the most reasonable item.  Otherwise, you may end up paying out of pocket for the difference.  Since laptops can be checked out at the library, they will only be covered in specific circumstances.

Students can also order their books online and pick them up so they do not have to wait as long in line.  If students wish to purchase or rent books elsewhere and their grant is refundable, the remaining balance will be distributed about 6 weeks into the semester.  Scholarships are not refundable and book scholarships must be spent in the bookstore using financial aid to purchase books only unless other arrangements are made with the scholarship coordinator in financial aid.
