A moment of celebration unfolded today at Alamance Community College, as students Tonia Austin and Kimberly Salmeron were recognized for their hard work and dedication. Surrounded by faculty and family members, the two were honored as recipients of the “People Helping People” scholarship from the NC State Employees Credit Union (SECU).
Tonia, pursuing her degree in Business Administration, and Kimberly, working toward a Cosmetology degree, each received $5,000 in scholarship support—funding that will help them continue their education over the next two years. Today’s event not only celebrated their achievements but also highlighted the power of community support in helping students reach their dreams.
Qualifications for the SECU scholarship include documented need, grade point average, community service, and commitment to ACC for two years. The scholarships are given to two students from each of the state’s 58 community colleges to support two years of schooling. The funding comes from SECU members who contribute a $1 service fee per month on their checking accounts.
At Alamance Community College, we are committed to removing barriers that stand between students and their goals. Whether you are a recent high school graduate, a working adult, or someone looking to reimagine your future, ACC offers a variety of funding sources to make college more affordable. From scholarships and grants to state and local assistance programs, we strive to ensure cost is never a reason a student can’t pursue their dreams.
