Alamance Community College has appointed Sonya McCook as the new Vice President of Instruction and Chief Academic Officer, effective August 1, 2025.

“With well over 25 years of experience in higher education, and a deep, firsthand understanding of ACC’s students, faculty, and mission, Sonya brings both expertise and a longstanding commitment to our campus community,” commented ACC President Dr. Ken Ingle.

Prior to this announcement, McCook had served as Dean of Business, Arts and Sciences for the past ten years. An educator at the College since 1997, she taught mathematics for 17 years and served as Mathematics department head from 2007-2015.

During her time as an instructor at ACC, McCook implemented a new developmental math program as well as a state-wide curriculum improvement project for mathematics. She made valuable contributions to the College's SACS-COC reaffirmation by chairing the General Education Outcomes Committee and serving on the SACS Compliance Team.

As Dean of Business, Arts and Sciences for the past decade, McCook has served in a leadership role for all faculty who teach in the business, arts and sciences curriculums.

In her new role, McCook will continue to report directly to Dr. Justin Snyder, Senior Vice President of Student Learning and Workforce Development.

McCook has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Appalachian State University, and a Master of Arts in Mathematics from UNC-Chapel Hill.
