Educational Tax Credit Information (1098-T)
Please Note: The information provided on ACC’s website is not tax advice. It is offered only as general information for ACC students and their families. Please consult a qualified tax expert for advice on computing, claiming, or determining qualification for any tax benefit mentioned on this website. Students or their parents may qualify for The American Opportunity Education Tax Credit or the Lifetime Learning Tax Credit.
The 1098-T form is used by eligible educational institutions to report information about their students to the IRS. A 1098-T form is considered for information purposes only and must be provided to all eligible students. The 1098-T form serves to alert students that may be eligible for the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC) or the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC). Eligible educational institutions are required by law to submit the student’s name, address, taxpayer identification number, enrollment status, academic status, payments [up to the amount of QRTE (qualified tuition and related expenses) billed], and scholarships and grants,
*please note that it is the taxpayers responsibility to determine their eligibility for the educational credits and how to calculate them. Representatives of Alamance Community College do not provide tax advice.
Tuition charges are based on our billing, not student payments.
The IRS does not require a 1098-T form for:
- Students enrolled in non-degree/ non-credit programs.
- Students whose boxes contain all zeroes.
- Students who do not have Qualified Tuition and Related Expenses
