I have several years of experience in higher education, specifically in student services. Areas in which I have experience include admissions, placement testing, recruitment, new student orientation, leadership development, and event planning. Previous to my career in higher education, I worked in the hospitality industry as an assistant general manager and then as a manager with Hampton Inn.

I have discovered that my passion within higher education is student leadership development. I have served as the Student Government Association advisor and assisted many student leaders at the local and state levels with development of their leadership skills. I have had many opportunities to present leadership focused workshops to students in North Carolina at state SGA conferences and Phi Beta Lambda (formerly PBL, but now known as FBLA -Collegiate) conferences. I have also been a leadership workshop presenter at national PBL conferences in Atlanta, Georgia and Nashville, Tennessee. Previous workshop topics have included: Stressed is Just Desserts Spelled Backwards; Who is Robert? and Why Do We Use His Rules?; and Leadership Lessons Learned from a Donut Box, to name a few.

My time in higher education has allowed me to serve sixteen years as a facilitator for the North Carolina Community College Student Leadership Development Program. I created an in-house student leadership program at my institution called The Journey Leadership Program, now in its seventh year. I have also been able to develop my personal leadership skills through the North Carolina Community College Leadership Program (NCCCLP) which allowed me to come back and serve as a co-director after I graduated from the program, followed by serving as director.
