Feeding Hungry Minds

Promoting food security in the ACC community

Feeding Hungry Minds, an AmeriCorps VISTA initiative at Alamance Community College, creates awareness of campus food insecurity, empowers students to access on-campus food supports, and develops greater access to fresh and nutritious food at ACC.

Food support services include:

  • Hawvest Community Garden, a pick your own garden behind A Building, open to everyone in the ACC community
  • EZ Meals, a collaboration with the ACC Culinary Club, providing freshly prepared frozen meals for anyone in the ACC community that is hungry and does not have the funds to purchase something to eat. Freezers are located in the Main Building next to the Corner Café, AATC and Agricultural Sciences (F Building)
  • Fresh Veggies-to-Go Produce Bag, an online service for ordering free, fresh produce for pickup at at the Dillingham Center Campus and Main Campus. Alerts are sent via email when produce is available. Email accvista@alamancecc.edu to register for alerts.

Other opportunities include:

  • Cooking demonstrations and other educational events to teach proper food handling and storage
  • Volunteering to work in the community garden and preparing and distributing food

Need more information about any of these services? Contact Laura Manigrasso or Alexis May

Together, we can ensure that no student has to choose between being fed or being educated.
