The College and Career Readiness department at Alamance Community College (ACC) has received recognition from the North Carolina African Services Coalition (NCASC) resettlement agency for its service and support to refugees. The presentation of the Certificate of Recognition occurred on June 20, known as World Refugee Day.

Refugees are those who have come fleeing violence or persecution and have legal status entering the United States upon resettlement.

Newcomers seek to attend ACC to learn English, receive job training, and continue their education. The College and Career Readiness staff in particular offered orientation and intake services specific to newcomers at the Dream Center in Burlington. Students were also connected to opportunities in Workforce Development and Curriculum areas, according to Jennifer Mock, Executive Director of College and Career Readiness.

The Certificate of Recognition stated, in part: “Your compassion, time, and effort have contributed to creating a more inclusive, supportive, and welcoming environment for individuals and families rebuilding their lives.”
