Paying for Tuition and Books

Your available Financial Aid award will first be applied to cover any current tuition charges. Since your Financial Aid award is based on your hours of enrollment, Financial Aid is not credited to your outstanding balance until the College has completed attendance verification. The Financial Aid office also has to send the approved amounts to the Business Office to post to your account and issue refund checks. You will see an outstanding balance until that process is complete. The Financial Aid posting process is typically finalized around the 6th week of the semester.

If you do not have enough Financial Aid in place to cover your current tuition charges, the Financial Aid office will contact you and you may need to take additional steps to ensure your balance is covered.

Students are able to charge books starting 10 days before the first day of class. At that time, if the student is awarded funds for books, the student must bring a copy of his/her schedule and a photo ID to the book store to purchase books.

Financial Aid will also pay for REQUIRED supplies. For example, purchasing a camera when you are an English student would not be a required item; but if you are a photography student, a camera would be considered a required item.

Students can also order their books online and pick them up so they do not have to wait in line.

If the bookstore does not have the required textbook available for the student to purchase, the student may be able to pick up a voucher for the Barnes and Noble Store at Alamance Crossing to order textbooks. Financial Aid does not have vouchers for any other stores or online websites. If students wish to purchase or rent books elsewhere and their grant is refundable, the remaining balance will be distributed about 6 weeks into the semester.
