Arts & Crafts

The Arts & Crafts classes are non-credit courses but many students have used knowledge and skills gained through these classes to develop a primary or secondary source of income.  Call 336-506-4149 or 336-506-4322 for more information.

Students in the Arts & Craft classes are responsible for their supplies and project material.  Supplies will vary depending on projects chosen.

New!  Arts & Craft Workshop

Students will paint pocket angels, a sand dollar, make gnomes from scrap yarn, and make mice for their Christmas tree.  Students will use a variety of craft items including hot glue, ribbon, pinecones and various household items.   Come and join the day of crafts and learn new ways to use up scrap yarn.  All acrylic paint will be provided.  Call 336-506-4149 or 336-506-4322 for more information.  Instructor: Carolyn Teague

Workshop Descriptions

  Bowls - Students will learn the basics of woodturning their own unique bowl. This class is suitable for all skill levels. Topics will include safety, tool selection, wood selection (green wood vs. dry), finishing, and coloring and texturing as time permits. *Cost includes all needed tools and materials.  Cost includes mandatory insurance.
Pen Turning - Students will learn the basics of turning pens (wood or acrylic). *Cost includes all needed tools and materials.  Cost includes mandatory insurance.
Pepper Mill - Learn to make your own pepper mill.  *Cost includes all needed tools and materials.  Cost includes mandatory insurance.
Egg Kaleidoscope -  Students will use the lathe and drill press to make a kaleidoscope in the shape of an egg. Students will make two eggs.  *Cost includes all needed tools and materials.  Cost includes mandatory insurance.

Chair Caning & Basket Weaving

Instruction will be given on the different patterns for Chair Caning based on the wishes of the class. Caning students may choose from 5 different chair caning patterns including Lace, Rush, Binder Cane, Pressed Cane or Shaker Tape. Basket weaving students will learn the basic pattern for a market style basket. Instructor will work with students on an individual level to help them learn new skills and enhance old ones. Painting: Acrylic - Tricks of the Trade

Watercolor, Beginning

Students learn techniques for sketching, mixing colors, and applying watercolor paints to the paper to achieve a variety of desired effects. Prerequisite: Some sewing experience. This is the perfect class for someone that has no experience with quilting at all. Sewing

Instructor will work with students on all levels to help them select and sew a project at their skill level. Stained Glass

This class is for beginners through advanced students and includes instruction on using patterns, cutting glass, grinding and foiling edges, and soldering pieces together. Students will learn carving techniques and professional finishing touches used to create small figurines.
