Personal Enrichment & Special Interest courses provide lifelong learning opportunities for adults to meet their non-vocational needs and interests. Classes under this section are designed to enrich the lives of students and promote social interests and creativity. NEW! Animal Handling and Restraint

Throughout this course, students will gain hands-on training for handling & restraint of agricultural animals, domestic animals, lab animals, and reptiles. This is an introductory course that will cover topics such as animal behavior, safe handling & restraint, discuss tools of restraint, and proper handling techniques of animals who are either frightened, injured, confined, diseased or trapped. This is an introductory course that will cover topics such as anatomy, animal behavior, safe handling, grooming tools and techniques. Wildlife Rehab

This course is intended for anyone who works with animals and has a serious interest in rehabilitation. Upon finishing the course, students will fill out paperwork for a state permit to rehabilitate animals as well as have the opportunity to join the Wildlife Rehab Inc. non-profit organization if they so choose. Wood Burning

In this class you will get to experience pyrography, the art of burning designs into wood. Learn the various types of basic wood burning techniques, tool care, and safety measures. Chair Caning & Basket Weaving

Instruction will be given on the different patterns for Chair Caning based on the wishes of the class. Caning students may choose from 5 different chair caning patterns including Lace, Rush, Binder Cane, Pressed Cane or Shaker Tape. Basket weaving students will learn the basic pattern for a market style basket. Instructor will work with students on an individual level to help them learn new skills and enhance old ones. The Pouring Pottery Molds Class is designed to introduce participants to the art of creating ceramic objects using molds. This hands-on class provides a comprehensive understanding of the techniques and processes involved in pouring pottery molds. Participants will learn how to mix and pour clay, eventually prepare molds and produce beautiful pottery pieces with precision and consistency.

Quilting -  Advanced

Prerequisite: Student must have a working knowledge of quilting techniques. This class is designed for the Intermediate to Advanced student.

It's time to pull out your jelly rolls and fat quarters to make wall quilts or throw quilts. As you sort through your stash, you will be able to arrange your fabric for 3 yard quilts. Stained Glass

This class is for beginners through advanced students and includes instruction on using patterns, cutting glass, grinding and foiling edges, and soldering pieces together. Wood Carving

Students will learn carving techniques and professional finishing touches used to create small figurines. Learn the various types of carving along with basic carving techniques, tool care, and safety measures. Students will learn how to carve projects with interlocking pieces out of one solid piece of wood. Shag Dance

Shag Dance is North Carolina’s official state dance. It is a type of swing dance that developed during the 1930’s and 40’s combining nimble footwork with upbeat rhythm and blues known as beach music. This course provides cosmetology instructional concepts, supervisory and instructional skills for teaching entry-level to advanced cosmetology students in a classroom and laboratory setting. Topics include orientation, theories of education, daily lesson planning, unit planning, lecture techniques, development and administration of assessment tools, laboratory management, student assessment, record keeping, demonstration of services, supervision, and other related topics. This course provides instruction and clinical practice in natural hair care. The course content includes sanitation, bacteriology, disinfection, first aid, and shampooing, draping, anatomy, disorders of the hair and scalp, and client consultation. Advanced students apply the following natural hair care techniques: twisting, wrapping, extending, locking, blow-dry, and thermal iron.
