Notary Classes

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be a High School graduate or equivalent
  • Live or work in NC
  • Not be convicted of a misdemeanor or felony, within the last 10 years.
  • The NC Secretary of State requires all candidates to speak, read, and write in English.

Due to NC Secretary of State mandated course hour requirements, participants arriving late will not be admitted into the class!

  • Students using the e-book, MUST bring a downloaded and viewable copy to class.  The e-book can be downloaded on a PC, tablet or smart phone for viewing.

  • Students that complete the course are eligible to send a completed application along with $50 to the Secretary of State's office. 
  • Students will then receive a letter from the Secretary of State them to their local Register of Deeds to be sworn in as a notary. There is a fee of $10.00 for the Register of Deeds.

The Notary Public course is mandated by the North Carolina Secretary of State for individuals interested in obtaining a commission as a Notary Public in North Carolina. Notary Public (Face to Face)

  • There are no waivers, scholarships or refunds for this class.  Classes fill quickly.  
  • Register & pay early to reserve your spot. Registration is not complete until payment is received.
  • Bring proof of ID to class:  Valid NC Driver's License or Passport.  Students without a valid ID will not be admitted to class.
  •  Classes are mandatory 8 hours.  Students arriving late will not be admitted

The online Notary classes are hosted through Zoom/ Moodle.  Students will receive an email with instructions once they have registered and paid.

Online Requirements for Notary Public Students from the SOSNC.GOV

  • Students must use a computer or laptop with webcam, microphone, internet connection, and Google Chrome web browser (iPads or smartphones will not work).
  • A quiet place to actively participate in the class.
  • Intention to provide a live video connection throughout the class and participate via chat, video, and verbal responses.
  • The 2016 edition of the North Carolina Notary Public Manual purchased prior to the start of class that is available for purchase at your ACC bookstore or in an e-book available from the UNC School of Government.  Students using the e-book, MUST bring a downloaded and viewable copy to class.  The e-book can be downloaded on a PC, tablet or smart phone for viewing.
  • A clear copy/photo of your valid photo ID.
  • Your Social Security Number.
  • Access to a printer for handouts and the Notary Application.

Pre-requisites: Student must have a current N.C. notary commission. 

Students must be a current Notary Public before taking this course. Students will need to provide a government issued photo ID and their commission number.
