Alamance Community College is committed to helping keep our roadways safe.  We partner with NC Department of Transportation, NC Division of Motor Vehicles, Safety & Health Council of NC, and Motorcycle Safety Foundation to ensure our instructors are up to date on the latest safety trends.

There are 3 components to the CDL-B Program at ACC.  The approximate costs are listed below.  Components must be completed in this order.

  • If you would like to be considered for a scholarship for the CDL Driving portion,  you will need to complete a FAFSA form.  
  • There are workshops available if you need assistance filling out the FAFSA form.  Those are listed on the website above as well.  
  • The FAFSA approval typically takes up to 2 weeks to come back to the school, so please plan accordingly.

Most scholarships require the student to have a FAFSA on file with the college.

CDL Prep   

This class will help students gain the knowledge needed to acquire a CDL-B permit. CDL-B Driving

ACC is partnering with Chandler Concrete to offer this training.  
  • Students interested in the CDL training also need to submit an employment application at Chandler Concrete. This is not a guarantee of employment with Chandler.
  • Chandler Inc. will interview students in the CDL–B training course for potential employment opportunities.    

CDL-B Permit required.  This hands on class is designed to teach students to drive Class B vehicles such as dump trucks and concrete vehicles.  This program will prepare the prospective driver to understand safety, driver responsibility and also the laws and regulations governing the motor carrier industry.   • Students MUST have have taken the CDL Prep class through Alamance Community College and have their CDL-B (or CDL-A) permit. 

  • CDL-B permit must be on file with the college before students are scheduled to drive.  Call 336-506-4322 for more information.

  • Students will receive 1 on 1 driving practice and will drive approx. 25-30 hours.   Students will drive in 2-3 hour blocks, and all driving will be done M-F, 8 am-5 pm. 

  • Students will learn on both Manual and Automatic Transmissions.

  • Cost of class changes depending on fuel surcharges, Approx. cost for the driving is $1,200.

  • The CDL-B Road test is taken at Davidson County Community College (Mocksville Campus).

  • Students are responsible for the cost of the CDL-B exam and any associated fees.

  • CDL-B exam is $300 paid to Davidson County Community College.  This cost must be paid before students can take the driving exam.

College staff can not advise students on which class to take.  Students should check with their lawyer or the DA's office for their case to determine the class needed.

  • DDC4 - 4 Hour class:  The 4 hour class is designed for low speeds, stop sign and stop light violations. Topics covered include safety belts, child safety regulations, passing safely, the effect of alcohol and drugs on driving and vehicle laws and regulations.
  • DDC8 - 8 Hour class:  The 8 Hour class is designed for high speeds, speeding in a work zone, speeding in school zone, all other aggressive driving violations and repeat offenders.  

The 4 hour class is designed for low speeds, stop sign and stop light violations. Topics covered include safety belts, child safety regulations, passing safely, the effect of alcohol and drugs on driving and vehicle laws and regulations.

DDC4 Online Course Requirements:

Recommended Devices
This training is designed to use on a laptop or computer, NOT a smart phone.
Enrollment
Once students have registered and paid for the course, they will receive an email detailing how to access the training program.
Time Allotment
Students have 14 Days from the date they receive the course access code to complete the training. Students may start and stop as often as they like, but it will still require 4 hours total to complete the class. 
Course Completion
There are knowledge checkpoints through out the training and students must complete those to move forward.  Students must complete all sections assigned to them.
Refunds
NO REFUNDS ONCE A COURSE ACCESS CODE HAS BEEN ASSIGNED!
NO REFUNDS IF STUDENTS FAIL TO COMPLETE THE TRAINING IN THE SPECIFIED TIME!
Out of County/ Out of State
If your citation is from another county or out of state, it is your responsibility to check with that county or state to see if the online class is acceptable. We have a list of approved NC counties and will let you know if your county is not on the approved list.

NCDOT/ Escort Vehicle 8 Hour Beginner Course

This course meets the training requirements that the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) sets to certify oversize-overweight load escort vehicle drivers. To become certified, escort drivers must attend the 8 hour NC Department of Transportation Escort Vehicle Course AND attend a 4 Hr Defensive Driving course that has been approved by the National Safety Council.  Call 336-506-4149 or 336-506-4322 for more information.  William Booth, Instructor

Basic Rider Course

The Basic Rider Course is aimed at beginning riders of all ages.  The course consists a mixture of classroom and range time. Practical riding skills are developed in a controlled, off-street environment. The Basic RiderCourse is conducted at a pace that results in successful completion for most novice riders. The RiderCoaches will help you learn to the best of your ability.  This course is designed for new riders who have never ridden a motorcycle, and for re -entry riders who have not ridden in a long time.  Students that are 16-17 years old must have a signed waiver form completed by a parent or guardian.  The course is mandatory for motorcyclists under the age of 18 in the state of NC.  Call 336-506-4322 or 336-506-4149 for more information.

BRC2

Prerequisite:  At least 6 months riding experience and 3,000 miles under your belt. The BRC2 is for someone who has been riding for a little while.  Students must possess a valid motorcycle license/ motorcycle endorsement.  Students must provide a street legal, properly licensed motorcycle and must show proof of insurance.  Bikes must also pass a safety inspection at class.  Call 336-506-4149 or 336-506-4322 for more information.

If you normally carry a passenger, you may take the BRC2 with your passenger on board. The Passenger will also need to register and sign the waiver forms.  COST FOR THE PASSENGER IS $30.00.
