Guidelines for HRD classes

Human Resource Development (HRD) classes can help students enhance their resume, market themselves, and explore a new career. HRD courses provide employability skills training and assistance for adults who are trying to find employment, transitioning back into the workforce, or working to redefine their professional niche in today's global market.  Call 336-290-0561 or 336-506-4200 or email dcgrinstead879@alamancecc.edu for more information on HRD courses.

HRD courses are FREE to those who meet any one of the following four criteria:

  • You are currently unemployed

  • You have received notification of a pending layoff

  • You are working and eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit

  • You are working and earn wages at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines

Learn basic computer skills that include word processing, keyboarding, email, internet search, social media, career and occupational research. Basic Computer Skills, Level 2 (Intro to MS Office)

This course introduces Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and Power Point) and Google Docs. Google Docs is a free, web-based office suite—Google Drive—that competes with Microsoft Office. Employability Skills Class and Lab 

You will receive assistance with resumes, cover letters, job applications, interviewing techniques, career exploration, job search assistance, and anything else career related. Includes help with basic computer skills, the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), WorkKeys, and the DSS Caseworker career path. Employability skills training is available for unemployed and underemployed adults. NCRC Test & Work Keys Testing

ACC is now an official testing site for the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The NCRC consists of three skills tests: applied mathematics, reading for information, and locating information. ACC also administers the WorkKeys test prep.  See the schedule below for pricing.  Call 336-506-4200 for more information. Instructor: Paulette Powell

  • Students are required to bring their own headphones or earbuds.

  • Students are required to register and pay BEFORE testing is scheduled.

  • Students will receive an email reply within 24 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) once the registration is received.

  • All testing is currently done on Monday-Thursday at 9:00 am.
  • All tests are given at the Dillingham Center, 1304 Plaza Dr. Burlington
  • Testing is 55 minutes per topic.
  • Cost is $12/$20 per test.  Please see the schedule below for actual test cost.

To access NCRC scores & certificates:

  1. Set up an account with ACT National Career Readiness Certificate
  2. Visit myworkkeys.com or call ACT directly at 1-800-967-5539 to set up the account
  3. Log in to their account on myworkkeys.com and print off or reference any and all scores and certificates.

WorkKeys Prep Class for taking the NCRC

Workkeys Prep class, also known as National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). This is a skills-based prep class designed as an self-paced course to prepare the learner to take the NCRC. While the core certificate focuses on Applied Math, Graphic Literacy and Workplace Documents, other areas such as Workplace Observation, Business Writing and Applied Technology, among others, are also available for the learner at their request. Working Smart, a soft skills training program, teaches students and job seekers the skills that employers know to be crucial for job success. The 28-hour course focuses on communication skills, problem-solving skills, time management, accountability, and more.
