This course will take students through the raising of layers and broilers (meat birds) on a small scale. This is an introductory course into the principles of permaculture as a way to regenerate ecosystems and meet human needs through ecological design. This class is for homeowners or budding green industry members, and can be completed from the comfort of your own home! You will gain an understanding of how plants are named and classified! After gaining this knowledge, you will start digging in to learn how to identify many of the common landscape plants of central North Carolina. Once you have this knowledge you will be amazed at how many plants you see and know! This 5-week course will have about 2 hours of material presented online each week. Introduction to Vegetable Production

This course will meet for a period of 12 weeks with 1 hour of instruction online (at your own pace each week) and 2 hours of instruction in-person. In this course you will learn the basics of producing vegetables in central North Carolina. Topics that will be covered are soil health, fertilization, planting, weed management, and many more. During this course, you will have the opportunity to plant and manage course crops at the Bill and Nancy Covington Educational farm.

This class is for homeowners or budding green industry members, and can be completed from the comfort of your own home! Have you ever wondered how to start plants for your garden on your own? This class will teach you the ins and outs of many common types of plant propagation, and will cover the differences between sexual and asexual methods for this propagation. This course is a five-section program developed to meet the need for certified irrigation technicians across the piedmont triad area of North Carolina. Introduction to Residential Landscape Design 

Introduction to Residential Landscape Design, Spring 2024
This is a fully ONLINE course that can be completed from the comfort of your own home! It is
designed for homeowners or budding landscape designers to gain an overview of the design
process as well as the design principles and elements used to create a quality residential
landscape design. This class will be a great way to start establishing a foundation and
broadening your skills in the subject of landscape design!
This course will meet for a period of 4 weeks with approximately 2 hours of materials presented online each week. There will not be a specific time that you will be required to sign on during the week which makes this course unique and allows it to fit to your schedule.

The installation of pavers to create beautiful patios, pathways, and
retaining walls is becoming more and more popular. This course will

provide students with information about the principles and procedures

involved in the installation and maintenance of hardscapes, particularly

interlocking concrete pavers and retaining walls. Students will acquire

technical knowledge and hands-on training/skills as it relates to site

analysis, hardscape design and selection, hardscape installation and

Landscape Crew Leader Certification          Fee $183

This is a 12-week program designed to help landscape crew members and/or leaders that are new to the green/horticulture industry. This course will provide an introduction to specific topics related to landscape management and leadership training. You will earn a certification upon completion of all sections;  Understanding Plants, Horticulture Field Techniques, and Leadership Effectiveness. Topics include but are not limited to the following: plant growth, plant identification, pest management, leadership skills, soils, and much more.

The online course is a blend of both live instruction via Zoom and items to work through each week online. It will meet online with live instruction on the dates listed below from 8am to 11pm. In addition to the live instruction, there will also be approximately three hours of assignments and activities for the participants to complete at their own pace.

Hand-Held Equipment Maintenance and Repair

Throughout this course you will be introduced to the basic principles of how 2-stroke engines operate. You will learn safety aspects, preventative maintenance, and repair for a variety of hand-held equipment. The equipment covered will include, but not be limited to blowers, trimmers, chainsaws and weed eaters. Instructor: Cody Byrd
