(August 1, 2022) – The Alamance Community College Foundation awarded numerous faculty/staff grants earlier this year, among them one for $10,000 to the Academic and Career Readiness (ACR) department to support childcare during High School Equivalency (HSE) and English Language Acquisition (ELA) morning classes at Burlington’s Dream Center.
CityGate Dream Center in east Burlington has hosted classes sponsored by the College since fall 2018. The Academic and Career Readiness department repaid the Center’s generosity in July by delivering a $10,000 check from the ACC Foundation to help support the childcare it provides for children of students in the College’s high school equivalency and English Language Acquisition classes.
Other faculty/staff grants support such projects as an Advertising and Graphic Design makerspace; the Center for Development and Leadership; Collaborative Learning Lab; and dental intraoral radiographic equipment.
Carolyn Rhode, Executive Director of the ACC Foundation, said, “We are grateful for the support of many donors who provide flexible funding to help students beyond traditional scholarships. Extras, such as childcare, ensure community members acquire the skills needed to be active workforce participants.”
“Thank you to the ACC Foundation for awarding this faculty/staff grant and supporting our students on their learning journeys,” said Vicki Rans, ELA coordinator at ACC.
