(May 3, 2022) – Alamance Community College has announced that Monica Isbell, Disability Services Coordinator, is the 2021-2022 recipient for Staff Member of the Year.
Isbell joined the College in 2006 as Disability Services Coordinator. In that role, Isbell provides training and information about disability accessibility and accommodations to the faculty and staff. She is proactive about being up to date on state and federal regulations to ensure the College remains compliant. She serves as the co-chair for the College’s ADA/504 Committee.
During Isbell’s 16-year tenure at ACC, she has been instrumental in the development and implementation of Career College, a two-year post-secondary vocationally focused program for individuals with intellectual disabilities. She has facilitated trainings on technical standards for ACC and other community colleges and universities in North Carolina and surrounding states.
Isbell is a past president of the NC Association of Higher Education and Disability (NCAHEAD).
Isbell has a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Western Carolina University, and a Masters of Social Work from the University of South Carolina. Prior to coming to ACC, she worked six years as a school social worker at Guilford County Schools; and as a Special Education teacher with Randolph County Schools.
Monica Isbell last won ACC’s Staff Member of the Year award in 2010.
