(December 9, 2021) – The fifth annual Girls Take Over Tech, an open house specifically for prospective female students, returned in-person to the Alamance Community College campus on December 8 after a virtual event was held last year due to the pandemic.
The 2021 event brought approximately 100 young women to the College’s Advanced Applied Technology Center to explore industrial career opportunities as demonstrated by females working in the industry, as well as currently enrolled female students in Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Welding Technology, Computer-Integrated Machining, Computer-Aided Drafting, Automotive Systems, and Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration. WISDEM (Women in Industrial Science, Design, Engineering and Manufacturing) organized the event.
The young women had numerous opportunities to get some hands-on experience in the various industrial programs.
Faculty and students from other programs staffed information tables for the high school students, including Animal Care and Management, Biotechnology, Horticulture/Agricultural Biotechnology, and Information Technology/Cybersecurity, and many others.
