(May 10, 2021) – Alamance Community College has announced its 2020-2021 recipient for Staff Member of the Year is Chief David Prevatte, Director of Public Safety.
Chief David Prevatte, ACC’s Director of Public Safety since 2016, is a 28-year law enforcement veteran. He is a graduate of Methodist University with a Master of Justice Administration degree, and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from UNC-Pembroke State University. He also attended Central Carolina Community College and is a graduate of Robeson Community College.
Upon his arrival at ACC, Chief Prevatte dedicated his time to transforming the department into a robust team that included personnel with experience in law enforcement at the civic level. Under Chief Prevatte, ACC’s Department of Public Safety engaged in partnerships with Alamance County and surrounding area law enforcement agencies for emergency management training, including multiple active shooter drills on the College’s two campuses in Graham and at the Dillingham Center. Chief Prevatte sought to improve the College’s telecommunications services, which has included training for some college staff in emergency notification software tools.
Over the past 5 ½ years, his dedication has been geared towards the protection of faculty, staff and students to ensure the safety of ACC’s campus. As this past year has been challenging in dealing with COVID-19, he has demonstrated his ability ensuring the needs have been met of each individual.
