The cost of attendance (COA) refers to the estimated total expenses for one academic term or year at Alamance Community College. It includes direct costs like tuition, fees, and room, board as well as indirect costs such as books, supplies, transportation, and personal expenses. Essentially, the COA is an estimate of the total amount of money it could cost a student to attend the college including direct and indirect expenses.
Awards for most of the Federal Student Aid (FSA) programs are based on some form of financial need. Unlike scholarship programs that may award funds based on academic merit or the student’s field of study, “need-based” grants, loans, and work-study are based on the student’s demonstrated financial need for assistance.
The cost of attendance (COA) is the cornerstone of establishing a student’s financial need, as it sets a limit on the total aid that a student may receive for purposes of the need-based programs like campus based aid to include Federal Work Study, FSEOG and Pell grants. The Cost of Attendance budget is one of the basic components of the Pell Grant calculation.

Net Price Calculator (Including Room & Board)
In accordance with the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA), each postsecondary institution that participates in Title IV federal student aid programs must post a net price calculator on its website that uses institutional data to provide estimated net price information to current and prospective students and their families based on a student’s circumstances.
The net price calculator is required for all Title IV institutions that enroll full-time, first-time degree- or certificate-seeking undergraduate students.
While ACC is a commuter campus, students should still plan for housing and meals. For financial aid purposes, estimated room and board costs are found in the net price calculator.
