When guests and fellow cast members meet Chloe Williams at Walt Disney World Resort, her name tag introduces more than just her name. Beneath “Chloe,” it proudly reads “Alamance Community College.”

For this Alamance County native, the choice reflects the positive experiences and support she has found at ACC throughout her educational journey.

“I put ACC on my name tag because I’ve had a better experience at ACC,” Williams said. “The four-year university I attended was great. I met a lot of people there, but it just was not the place for me.”

Williams is pursuing an associate degree in Business Administration at ACC while participating in the Disney College Program in Florida. She hopes to build a career in hospitality and tourism, an interest that made Disney a natural place to gain firsthand experience.

“I want to work in the hospitality and tourism industry, so that’s kind of why I went to Disney,” Williams said. “They’re huge in that industry.”

Her connection to ACC began before she graduated from Southern Alamance High School. Williams enrolled through the Career and College Promise program during her junior and senior years after guidance counselors encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunity. Most of her ACC courses were online, allowing her to begin earning college credits while balancing academics and varsity cross-country, swimming and track.

After high school, Williams enrolled at a four-year university in North Carolina. The experience helped her recognize what she valued most in a college: flexibility, personal attention and a supportive learning environment. Having already taken classes through ACC, she found that the College offered the experience that best met her needs.

Williams ultimately chose to leave the four-year institution and return to ACC. The College’s online courses allowed her to continue exploring her career interests and making progress toward her degree without putting her education on hold.

“I’m really glad I’m at ACC because they have been so flexible with me,” she said. “ACC has worked with me so much.”

That flexibility continued during her time in Florida. Williams is taking an ACC course online while working in the Disney College Program. Her schedule varies from day to day, and she may work at several locations throughout Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park.

Williams credits her experience at ACC with helping her strengthen the time-management skills she uses to balance work and school. She also appreciates the personal attention she has received from the College’s employees.

“I really like all of the staff and faculty,” Williams said. “I feel like at ACC, you really can get to know all of the faculty, and they, in turn, get to know you.”

Her ACC name tag has also created opportunities to introduce Walt Disney World guests and cast members to the College. Disney College Program participants may display their college or university on their name tags, and several people have asked Williams where Alamance Community College is located.

The name tag is a small but meaningful symbol of a journey that has included dual enrollment, university life, a change in academic direction and professional experience at one of the world’s best-known hospitality and entertainment destinations.

As for what comes next, Williams is considering several possibilities, including returning to North Carolina to complete her studies at ACC.

Whatever path she chooses, she encourages other students not to overlook the opportunities available through community colleges.

“Just because it’s not your typical four-year institution, it doesn’t mean that it’s not a real college,” Williams said. “Community college is a meaningful college experience. You’re earning a degree and building your future so that you can prepare for your next steps, wherever that may lead.”

She also recommends the Disney College Program to students across a wide range of academic interests, not only those planning careers in hospitality. Williams has met participants studying fields ranging from pre-medicine to finance and culinary arts.

“ACC has given me the flexibility to keep moving forward, even as my path has changed,” Williams said. “I love being part of a college that has supported me, worked with me and helped me see just how many possibilities are out there.”

For now, Williams continues to represent Alamance Community College hundreds of miles from home—one conversation, one guest and one proud name tag at a time.
