MISSION AND PURPOSE OF ALAMANCE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The mission of Alamance Community College is to provide an open door to high quality education and learning. Central to this mission is the belief in the unique worth of each person. Accordingly, the College strives to help people realize their potential and attain a meaningful education that is relevant and responsive to the needs of the local, state, and global communities.
The purpose and goals of Alamance Community College are: To provide:
- comprehensive educational opportunities offered at convenient times and locations and in a variety of instructional methods.
- vocational, technical, and general education designed to prepare individuals for employment in industry, business, and service occupations through certificates, diplomas, and the Associate in Applied Science degree.
- freshman and sophomore general education courses designed to transfer to other colleges and universities through the Associate in Arts and the Associate in Science degrees.
- short-term, concentrated instruction designed to help individuals improve their occupational credentials, upgrade job-related and academic skills, and enhance their abilities to function productively.
- well-planned and professionally supervised work experiences for students.
- literacy instruction for those who qualify for the services, which includes: Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult High School, Compensatory Education, General Educational Development (GED), and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.
- specific job-oriented training for new, existing, and expanding industries and businesses.
- programs to develop social, cultural, and personal interests, which are responsive to individual and community needs.
- student support services that help with the enrollment process to promote student academic, career, and personal successes.
To cooperate:
- with local and regional economic development efforts to maintain, develop, and recruit business and industry.
To collaborate:
- with local and statewide educational communities to share resources, enhance instructional delivery options, and offer seamless educational transitions for students.
To serve: - as an educational center for the community by providing physical facilities, library and information services, speakers, and other resources.
These goals will be addressed in a learning environment where continuous improvement is expected and planned.
