The Writing Center is open to all current and former students of Alamance Community College. This is a FREE tutoring service that may be used for any writing assignment in any course, as well as for other important writing tasks such as resumes and application essays.
Professional tutors can offer guidance for any part of the writing process, from brainstorming to final revision and encourage you to explore ideas and will ask you questions about development, organization, grammar, and mechanics.
Viewing writing as a process will help you to meet your own goals as a writer as well as to meet the requirements of a particular assignment. Over time, this process will improve your skill and help you achieve your academic and career goals.
Computer space where you can revise your paper/document and ask questions (as they arise) during an appointment is also available.
Click here to make an appointment: You can login with your ACC username and password at your convenience (here are instructions), or call us at 336-506-4190, or come to the Writing Center.
The Writing Center (WC) offers:
- Individual Sessions
- Appointment or walk-in allows you to meet with a writing tutor who will read your paper and ask questions that will help you revise for development, organization, grammar, and mechanics.
- Online Sessions
- Electronic submission/e-tutoring allows you to submit your document as an attached Word file. You will then receive written feedback if you are unable to come to the WC in person.
- Live Online Video Tutoring allows you to communicate via computer with a live tutor. The ability to both see and communicate with the tutor during live online tutoring sessions is required.
You may also receive answers to specific questions by calling us at 336-506-4190.
As you plan your work for the semester, keep in mind that you will need time to revise your work after a writing center appointment. Sometimes we get booked up as well, so please try to make your appointments ahead of time. You may also cancel an appointment yourself if you can’t make it, which leaves the necessary space for other students. Failure to notify us of a missed appointment may prevent you from being able to schedule appointments in the future.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the current flu and covid-variants environment, everyone who enters the center is encouraged to consider wearing a mask.
