ACC To Host FAFSA Day for Public Oct. 28

Alamance Community College financial aid officers will be available on Saturday, October 28 from 9 a.m. until 12:00 noon to help high school seniors and current ACC students complete and submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms required for the 2018-19 academic year.

The FAFSA is required to be considered for all federal and most state financial aid, including scholarships and grants. The FAFSA application day has usually been held in February but this year it has been moved up to help students.

Students need to register for the event through the College Foundation of North Carolina (www.cfnc.org/fafsaday). High school students do not need to be planning to attend the college that is hosting the event.

Here’s the 411 on FAFSA Day:

  • The application process takes about 30 minutes.
  • Although not required, it’s best if parents and students come together.
  • Parents and students need to bring information from their 2016 tax filing and income statements they have.
  • Each participating student and one parent are encouraged to obtain Federal Student Aid ID (FSA IDs) from the U.S. Department of Education website, fsaid.ed.gov, prior to FAFSA Day. Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) have been replaced by the FSAID.

The College is hosting weekly FAFSA application workshops on Thursdays at 9 a.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., and Friday at 8 a.m. Members of the community may register for the workshops at: www.alamancecc.edu/financial-aid-site/financial-aid-workshops/

FAFSA is for everyone, regardless of age, income level or where the student wants to go to school. It’s the first step in finding the money to pay for college. ACC’s financial aid professionals will be onsite to help students and parents complete the application and answer any basic financial aid questions they may have.
