Citizenship and TOEFL Test Prep
The ESL Program at ACC also offers several specialized classes with instruction focused on a specific topic or skill. Currently, we offer a ToEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) preparation class for advanced level students interested in entering a curriculum program at ACC or another college or university. Students are pretested on ToEFL material and then instruction is customized to prepare the student to take the actual ToEFL. This is a very high level course with intense instruction and requires regular attendance and a commitment to study.
We offer a Citizenship class which prepares students to undertake the process to become a citizen. Actual content from the citizenship test is studied as well as the process itself. Students practice answering citizenship interview questions and filling out required forms. The number of former students who have obtained their citizenship is well over thirty and rising! All students are asked to return to the class one last time after they receive their citizenship to share their experience with the class. In this way, students gain firsthand knowledge of the process from someone who has just completed it.
This semester we have added a new option for Advanced ESL learners. This class is designed to help perfect English speaking, writing, reading and listening skills for adults seeking to prepare for the workplace or for college level work.
