Air Brush Painting

Bob Ross Painting

Oil Painting

In these classes learn a variety of skills and techniques for working in oils. Two basic methods may be chosen: speed or traditional. Speed painting involves the use of large brushes, and often a painting can be completed in a single, three-hour class session. The traditional painting method emphasizes finer detail through the use of smaller brushes.

Pottery: Hand And Wheel Thrown

In this class learn to mold clay by hand and “throw” the clay on a pottery wheel. The clay objects are kiln fired, painted, or glazed using a variety of techniques, and then fired a final time. Wood Kaleidoscopes

Students will construct a traditional 3 mirror wooden kaleidoscope with an oil-filled object box and prismed exterior lens.   Learn to fabricate a unique cone jig for turning the kaleidoscope barrel and end cylinder.   These are not kit-assembled kaleidoscopes; each piece of wood is cut and put together by hand.   Students pay a supply fee of $30 at the first class or students may purchase their own supplies. All Basic Skills courses are held at the Graham campus, at the Burlington Center, and/or at corporate and community sites throughout Alamance County. Prior to enrolling, the student is required to make an appointment with a literacy assessment specialist by calling 506-4376. No registration fee is charged for any of these programs.

 

Basic Skills programs provide basic educational opportunities for adults aged 16 years or older. Classes are held at various locations throughout Alamance County. Adult Basic Education–Call 506-4376

This program is for those who need to improve basic reading, writing, and math skills through the eighth-grade level.

GED–Call 506-4376

This high school completion program is designed to prepare adults for the General Educational Development (GED) tests. Areas of study include writing and reading, social studies, science and math. The State Board of the N.C. Community College System awards students a GED diploma upon a satisfactory score on the GED tests.

Adult High School–Call 506-4376.

This program offers a high school diploma for an adult who did not graduate from the public school. The individual is required to pass the North Carolina Competency Test and complete 22 units of credit for completion. Credits may be earned by attending one of our two class sites. Classes are available during the day and evening. The diploma is issued by the Alamance-Burlington School System and Alamance Community College.

This program is for those for whom English is not the primary language and who are interested in improving their English speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Access

Access is a full-featured relational database that is part of the Microsoft Office suite (professional edition). This beginner’s Access course is designed to acquaint you with setting up databases. You will learn to design a database so that information is entered only one time in one table but linked (related) to other information. For example, information about a customer can be entered only once and that information can be related to information about sales in another table. You should be very familiar with Windows and the other parts of the Office package before taking this class. Call 506-4311 for more information.

Adobe Illustrator, Introduction:  Level I

This course is an introduction to the Adobe Illustrator digital illustration soft-ware, the industry standard digital illustration program.  It is a full-featured illustration program widely used in the creation of logos, informational graphics, illustrations and even graphs.  Students will learn the core basics of Illustrator through the use of exercises, interactives, and demonstrations.  Prior to taking this course students should be familiar with the basic skills associated with the use of computers, such as using a mouse and saving file folders on the desktop and/or disc.  Limit 10 students.  Please call 336-506-4219 to reserve your seat.

Basic Computer Use (Windows XP/Vista)

This beginner’s course is appropriate if you have some basic knowledge of operating a personal computer. In this course you will learn procedures common to all Windows programs. The instructor will teach file management; how to set up folders and subfolders; and how to move, copy and delete files. You will also learn to cut and paste, copy, move, drag and drop, and use the “save” and “save as” commands. You will learn how to go from portable storage devices such as CDs to the hard drive and vice versa and how to customize your Windows desktop. Call 506-4311 for more information.

NEW!  Digital Imaging: Beyond the Basics

This class goes beyond digital Photography & Design basics, and is taught using Photoshop CS3 as the output media for digital imaging. Students will learn to use camera shutter speeds and aperature modes for depth of field, motion, lighting, and overall composition. A digital camera with shutter and aperature priorities or icon priorities is required.
