Students are required to complete 22 units of credit for graduation, and they may transfer completed units from their previous high school to ACC (an official transcript is required). Units may be earned in English, mathematics, social studies, science, and foreign language, and a variety of electives. Graduates are issued a high school diploma from the Alamance-Burlington School System and Alamance Community College. Students may enter the Adult High School program at any time during a semester after an initial assessment. Courses are held at the Burlington Center. There is no charge for AHS courses. Potential students who are 16- or 17-years-old and who wish to enroll in the AHS program have specific requirements that must be met before they may be admitted. These requirements may include, but are not limited to, a release form to be signed by the superintendent and the principal of the school they last attended, notarized and signed by the parent or guardian. There may be a waiting period before enrollment. Both the school system and ACC will have more information on current requirements. Students who complete the requirements for graduation may not receive the diploma until their (public school) class graduates from high school or until they are 18-years-old. Just as in the public schools, 16- and 17-year-old students must meet state requirements as set by the Drivers License Program or lose their license. Requirements for individuals in the Drivers License Program are to attend six consecutive months, to attend 60 hours per month (20 days), and to make reasonable academic progress. For more information about AHS classes or to enroll, contact the coordinator, Claire Dixon(506-4375) or the Assessment Center at 506-4376. |
